cilantro pistachio pesto
I know, it’s been a while.  I’ve been to a handful of places and eaten many different things this summer. :) When my sd card decides to work, maybe I’ll share some of the delicious pictures! The one thing that I love with almost anything savory is pesto! They actually use pesto in pastas in South America! It’s a shame that people still think that that Latin America =...

soon doo boo
This is attempt #1 at Korean Tofu Soup! Sorry for the terrible photos/lighting! Actually..this is going to be the only actual picture of food. :P It was okay. I still like it better in a little clay pot to keep it nice and warm and sizzling :( Beef, shrimp, mushrooms, onions, kimchi, garlic, tofu, egg. Broth made from kelp. This is Phalicia!    Amy ate a croissant. Calvin is waiting to be...

just like home
Eating egg noodles always reminds me of home. My mom works at a noodle factory (no we do not get free noodles) down the street from our old apartment, and my dad used to work there too until he decided to venture into other things. In those elementary school days, after school, I would be left in the factory…it was kind of like my childcare center. I learned to count in Vietnamese as they...

food fillers
I’m just going to blatantly say it aloud. Weekly soup blog is not working.  No motivation? Inspiration? Time? I think it’s more like I just get distracted by other things and other foods. My solution is that I’m going to post all my pictures of food here too as fillers. Yes, fillers like those out-of-storyline episodes on tv. SORRY!l I would normally post these on...

chicken stock
This was a super fail. I had leftover chicken bones from a roasted chicken that my housemate bought from Safeway. I boiled it with some onions and peppercorns, then I threw in some carrots and celery, and let it simmer for a few hours. I was hoping that letting it simmer longer with the lid off would help the flavors become more concentrated, and while it did work a little bit, it still...

week 5: tomato borscht soup.
Hi! It’s been three weeks! I’ve watching fullmetal alchemist BAHAHA but last weekend I made tomato borscht soup, kind of like the ones in hong kong style cafes, but thicker because I didn’t strain it and I cooked it for hours.  I consulted my mom, dad, and a few online sources and just kind of kept adding tomatoes until it seemed right.. :X  WASH YOUR VEGGIES! tomatoes,...

week 4: wonton soup.
We wrapped wontons! Can you tell I’m homesick like crazy?! It’s been over two months! Okay, that’s not that long, but still!  Filling: ground pork, onions, green onions, shrimp, powdered chicken bouillon, salt, white pepper, sesame oil, corn starch. (I called my momma!) I added chili oil to some of them.  Roommate helped me wrap them! She wrapped them like dumplings..I...

week 3: butternut squash
I am updating so Ivette does not yell at me. Leanne’s mama gave me a butternut squash and then a week or two later, I chopped it up in “2 inch cubes” according to recipes we found online and covered it in salt and pepper and lots of melted butter because butter is artery clogging and delicious and yummy and makes things so very tasty. Then after about uhhhh I don’t...

week 2: cajun jambalaya
Okay so maybe jambalaya isn’t exactly soup…. but it has broth! So I’ll call it soup ‘cause I want to. Onions, garlic, chicken, shrimp, sausage, celery, tomatoes, bell peppers, rice, chicken broth, and seasoning-lots of it. Leanne and I followed this recipe by Emeril. Or you know, we tried to. The recipe for the Creole seasoning at the bottom of the page makes a...

week 1: french onion soup
The first soup of the year: French Onion Soup. Followed a combination of 3 recipes from Food Network, Chow, and Amateur Gourmet. Substituted dry sherry and Worcestershire sauce for balsamic vinegar because I’m a dummy and forgot to buy it. We was kind of bland at first but we added lots of salt and then it became too salty but it was still pretty good! It was my first time trying French...
